David Walliams in new campaign to help parents teach children IT skills at home

David Walliams is fronting a new campaign aiming to help parents find online resources to teach their children computing skills at home.

The comedian is showing people how to use the resources in the hope it will inspire parents and children across the country to sign up to educational skills-based IT games during lockdown in an ad break takeover on ITV as part of BT’s Beyond Limits: Top Tips on Tech campaign.

The activities and games have been developed by the Barefoot Computing Programme, which was established in 2014 to help primary school teachers deliver IT classes in engaging ways.

It has been used by two million pupils across UK primary schools so far.

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, these have been adapted to provide new lessons, activities and games.

The three-week campaign, which is also fronted by broadcasters Fearne Cotton and Rylan Clark-Neal, has been produced in collaboration with the Computing at School initiative and the Chartered institute for IT.

A BT study revealed millions of parents across the country can only spend up to two hours a day teaching their children during lockdown, with just 24 per cent of them saying they felt comfortable teaching IT and computer science.
