A nightie at the opera on Red Nose Day

Opera singers and City workers today called on Londoners to rekindle the “spirit of the Olympics” on Red Nose Day by wearing their pyjamas to work a week on Friday.

The whole of London is being urged to raise money for the capital’s poor as part of the Dispossessed Fund’s campaign with Comic Relief. To take part, Londoners are being encouraged to sign-up online and create a profile so that sponsors can donate.

Members of Opera Holland Park and workers at sponsor Investec Wealth and Investment will be taking to the streets and singing opera at venues across the capital including day care centres, schools and hospitals.

James Clutton, producer of Opera Holland Park, said: “We’ll be stopping randomly trying to brighten up people’s days. Hopefully it’s going to show the spirit during the Olympics when people pulled together.”

Chris Sandford, 46, business development director at Investec, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to do something that’s good for the country, good for the world and good for the soul.”
