A young woman was racially abused on the London Underground before being followed through a station by a man apparently who continued to shout at her.
The 23-year-old victim was travelling on the Bakerloo line between Waterloo and Piccadilly Circus when she was allegedly subjected to a torrent of racist insults.
She got off the Tube at Piccadilly Circus and was followed by the man who shouted abuse at her, British Transport Police said.
The man allegedly continued to shout racist insults and threats at the woman before throwing punches in her direction.
PC Ben Pereira, from British Transport Police, said: “While none of the punches connected with the victim, this was clearly an unacceptable and frightening incident.
“We all have the right to use the Tube without having to worry that we will be singled out for abuse or violence, and we cannot tolerate any form of hate crime.”
Detectives have today released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which happened at 6.50am on April 7.
