Woman arrested after pregnant rail passenger ‘punched in stomach’ at Victoria station

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of punching a pregnant train passenger in the stomach at Victoria train station.

The woman, 31, then spat at another woman who intervened in the assault, police said.

The incident happened in the busy railway interchange at around 8.46pm on Wednesday.

British Transport Police (BTP) was called to the scene and detained a 31-year-old woman from Gillingham.

A statement from BTP said: "It is believed a woman assaulted a pregnant woman before spitting at another woman who intervened in the assault.

"Officers attended and a 31-year-old woman, from Gillingham, Kent, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

"She was taken to custody as enquiries continue."

The pregnant woman was taken to hospital to have her injuries assessed.

At this time, neither mother or baby are believed to have sustained any serious injuries.

BTP could not confirm the exact vicinity in which it believes the incident occurred, just that it was in the train station not Underground.
