This is the moment a woman had her phone snatched from her hand as she walked along a pavement near Angel station.

With her phone her in one hand and shopping bags slung across her shoulder, the woman was caught on camera walking along on St John Street in Islington.

A man on a bike then appears behind her, circling the wide pavement before swooping towards her and snatching the phone in just seconds.

His victim, who looked to be texting at the time, did not appear to have noticed the thief until he had already struck.

The cyclist, clad in dark trousers and a grey hoodie with the hood up, then bikes into the road and rides off in the direction of Clerkenwell as his victim looks on, seemingly frozen in shock.

Police have released the footage to serve as a warning as to how quickly and easily criminals can swipe mobile phones.

Sgt Sinclair, neighbourhood sergeant for St Marys in Islington, tweeted the clip saying: "It's that easy. Please be aware of your surroundings. Take care of your phones."
