Police are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered serious head injuries in an attempted robbery in north-east London.

The 48-year-old victim was walking along Eden Road, Walhamstow, just after 10pm on July 18 when a man approached him and demanded his phone and wallet.

The victim refused and was punched in the face several times, said police. He lost consciousness and was helped to safety by some people at the scene.

Nothing was taken from him, however his facial injuries, including fractures to his eye socket, require ongoing hospital treatment.

The suspect had left the scene before police arrived.

Detective Constable Alexandra Varga, the investigating officer, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this robbery in Eden Road.

“This was a completely unprovoked attack and the victim has suffered a number of serious head injuries.

“We need witnesses with information, no matter how small, to help catch the person responsible and ensure they are unable to do this again."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 8664/18JUL.

Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
