A teenage boy has been stabbed to death by a gang of three men after the moped he was riding crashed with a car in north-east London, police believe.

Three males got out of the car and knifed the victim, aged 14, before returning to the vehicle and speeding off from the scene in Bickley Road, Waltham Forest, officers said.

Paramedics battled to save the boy’s life but he was pronounced dead shortly after 7pm following the horrific incident on Tuesday evening.

"It is believed that three males got out of the car and then stabbed the victim before returning to the vehicle and driving off," Scotland Yard said in statement.

A police spokesman said: “A crime scene remains in place. The Homicide and Major Crime team has been informed.

“There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan called the stabbing a "horrific incident" on Twitter.

He said: "I'm greatly saddened by the news of the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old in Waltham Forest and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

"If anyone has information about this horrific incident - please contact Metropolitan Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously."

Tuesday's stabbing comes less than 48 hours after a 27-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after being knifed during a fight at Stockwell bus garage on Monday afternoon.

It also follows a weekend of bloodshed in the capital, as Scotland Yard launched its fourth murder inquiry of the New Year after a woman in her mid-30s was found dead in east London.

In a separate incident on Sunday, an 18-year-old man was left critically injured after being stabbed at Blackhorse Road Tube station in Waltham Forest.

Another young man, 26, was in a critical but stable condition after being stabbed a number of times in Forest Gate, at about 2pm on Saturday.
