Detectives are investigating separate sex attacks on two women around commons in south east London - marking three sexual assaults to hit the area within a week.

One woman aged in her twenties was assaulted by a man while she was walking through Plumstead Common, in Greenwich, on Sunday (June 22) at 9.30pm.

The victim was approached by her attacker while she was sat on a bench close to the Slade playground.

He is described as Oriental, 5'5" and slim and was wearing dark clothes with a hood.

Two men and a woman rushed to her aid after they heard her cries for help.

Another 24-year-old woman was assaulted on June 22 while she was jogging on Winn’s Common, which is located close to Plumstead Common.

A man, described as clean shaven and tanned, approached her from behind before pulling down her clothes. Police said he was aged in his thirties to early forties and was wearing a blue top with a hood as well as blue shorts.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incidents, which they do not believe are linked.

No arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Charmaine Laurencin said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything on Sunday. In particular we are keen to speak to a third member of the public, a man, who assisted the victim but left before police arrived on the scene.”

There have now been three sex attacks in the area within a week.

Four boys have been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on June 15 after she was found in a 'distressed state' in Plumstead Gardens.

They have been bailed until dates in late August and early September.

Anyone with information about the attacks can call 0208 284 9554 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
