Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was found with serious head injuries by a motorway sliproad.

Essex Police said two Lithuanian men, aged 50 and 41, were being held after the incident on the M11 at around 6.10pm yesterday.

The injured man was found by the motorway's northbound carriageway at the approach to the exit for junction seven for Harlow, according to police.

A police spokesman said: "A man was taken to hospital for treatment after serious head injuries where he remains in a serious but stable condition."

The two men were arrested at the scene and remain in custody where they are being questioned by detectives, Essex Police said.

The incident meant the motorway was closed northbound for around six hours between junction six for the M25 and junction seven for Harlow yesterday evening. Police said it reopened shortly before 12.30am overnight.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or 01245 491491.
