A man has been charged with attempted murder as a teenager fights for his life after he was stabbed in east London.

Arosh Ali, 24, from Mile End, was due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The victim, a man aged 19, was found with knife wounds in Duckett Street, Stepney, on March 8.

He and his family are being supported by officers.

Metropolitan Police said: “The attack occurred close to a mosque and we know this caused significant concern among the local community.

“Following extensive enquiries, officers do not believe the stabbing was a hate crime or that the victim was targeted due to his religion or race.”

Extra police officers are on patrol around the crime scene to reassure the public.

Detectives believe there may be further witnesses who have not yet come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 reference 3741/08MAR24.
