A man is fighting for life in hospital after a double shooting in a south London street.

Armed police descended on Thornton Heath after reports of a fight shortly midnight on Thursday.

The men, both 22, were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were rushed by paramedics to a south London hospital.

A Met Police spokesman said: “The first male has life threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition. His next of kin have been informed.

“The second male has suffered life changing injuries to his hand but his condition is non-life threatening."

A police cordon remains in place outside a row of shops in Green Lane, while the road was earlier closed to traffic but has since reopened.

Scotland Yard said no arrests have been made, and no weapons recovered.
