A man is fighting for life in hospital after being shot in south-east London.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to Thamesmead shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday following reports of an injured man in Newmarsh Road.

The victim, aged in 20s, fled before police arrived in the residential street.

He later took himself to hospital with a gunshot wound

Scotland Yard confirmed the man is in a critical condition.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the shooting to come forward.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Detectives from the Met’s Trident Gang and Area Crime Command are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was critically injured following a shooting in Greenwich.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
