Three men accused of plotting a terror attack in Britain had drawn up detailed plans with formulas on how to detonate explosives, a court heard today.

Irfan Naseer, 31, Irfan Khalid and Ashik Ali, both 27, were said to have written a blueprint on how to make up to eight bombs. The document was found at an address where they were hatching their alleged plot and was burnt around the edges.

Prosecutor Brian Altman told Woolwich crown court: “Figures, calculations and diagrams were found. A blueprint for a viable homemade device.”

The court was played a recording of the men talking about using an alarm clock in the device. Naseer was heard to say: “It gonna go boom.”

The men were also heard discussing the death toll of their planned device, saying that a 1kg bomb would kill 25 people.

The jury was told that the type of bomb the men were planning to use – made up of aluminium and ammonium nitrate – was commonly used in Afghanistan. All three deny engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts. Naseer is accused of five counts, Khalid four and Ali three, between Christmas Day 2010 and September 19 last year.

Naseer, Khalid and Ali, from Birmingham, are accused of planning a bombing campaign, collecting money for terrorism and recruiting others. Naseer and Khalid are accused of travelling to Pakistan for training in terrorism, and it is alleged that Naseer helped others to travel there for the same purpose.

The trial continues.
