The family of a “hardworking” 17-year-old knifed to death yards from his family home in the shadow of Tottenham Stadium have spoken of their heartbreak.

Newly qualified electrician Ali Baygoren was fatally stabbed just outside his front door as he left his estate to work at a market on Saturday.

His mother hearing his screams ran out to find her dying son, according to neighbours.

His father Ibrahim told the Standard through tears: “Ali had just finished studying as an electrician. He had three days of holiday then was killed.

“He would tell his mother ‘I’m working to give you money’. And he would say ‘Dad I’m going to buy you a new car.’ He was a good boy.

“He was on the way to work at the market but the trains were not working. So he had to walk to get a bus and then was attacked.”

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder, police confirmed on Monday. The Met said he was charged on Sunday and will appear at Willesden Magistrates’ Court later on Monday.

Two police officers guarded a forensics tent just metres away from the teenage victim’s front door.

Neighbour Joe Ajyeman told the Standard: “I came back from the Tottenham stadium tour and saw police everywhere.

“I panicked and thought something had happened it to my children because I left the baby with their grandmother.

“It’s crazy to think we can be walking amongst killers.

“We just don’t know who has the heart to do that to a boy. I used to see him with his father a lot. They would park right by my house.

“My mother-in-law heard screams as she was feeding the baby but thought it was children playing.

“His family have had people visiting all weekend to support them. They can see the tent from their kitchen window it’s so sad.”

An anti-knife crime protest march to Tottenham Police Station will walk from the murder scene in Orchard Place at 7pm on Monday.

Organisers said in a poster advertising the march: “No more deaths — let Ali Baygoren be the last!

It added: “He has left behind a devastated family and a mother in pain, anguish and mourning.

“His friends, neighbours and our entire community are infuriated. We seek justice and reiterate that our children are not born to become a statistic or the subject of impassive news articles about ‘another stabbing.’

“We no longer want to write obituaries for young boys who should have prospects and a fulfilled future to look forward to rather than a funeral or prison cell.

They added: “As Ali’s family, we have lost our son and call upon everyone to make enough noise so that we are the last to go through this agony.

“We stand in solidarity with the hundreds of other families in London who have lost their children and with whom we share mutual heartache.

“Please join us and struggle in unity to demand convincing action against gang and knife crime in our community.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said police were called to reports of a male stabbed in Orchard Place at approximately 12.10pm on Saturday, June 18.

They added: “Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a 17-year-old male died from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed. While formal identification awaits, police can confirm the deceased is Ali Baygoren from Tottenham.

“A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course. Two males arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder on 18 June have both been bailed pending further enquiries. Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating the incident.”

They said the 15-year-old charged with murder had also been arrested on Saturday. Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are investigating the incident.
