A teenager has been left partially blinded after liquid squirted from a man’s bottle left him with burns to his eyes.

The 16-year-old was walking from West Croydon station into Station Road at 6.30pm on Sunday, January 3 when he noticed a man squirting liquid from a bottle in the direction of another man.

As he walked past the man some of the liquid hit him in the eye, leaving him with burns.

Croydon Police said the teenager was treated at hospital where he has regained 90 per cent of his vision but added he will need further treatment.

Detectives today issued an appeal for any witnesses to the assault to step forward as they try and trace the man who squirted the liquid.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, 6ft tall of medium build with brown wavy hair. He wore a dark blue puffa jacket.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Lorna Sillett of Croydon CID on 020 8284 2269 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
