A 15-year-old boy was appearing in court today over an acid attack which left an east London teenager scarred for life.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of squirting acid in the face of Tara Quigley outside her Romford home.

He was appearing before Barkingside magistrates charged with throwing corrosive fluid on a person with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Ms Quigley answered the door to a stranger who asked to speak to “Michelle” shortly before 9pm on April 30.

He returned about 30 minutes later and squirted an acidic substance in her face from a bottle, according to police.

The woman managed to shut the door after the assault and rinse her face with water while an ambulance was called.

Her pet dog, a long-haired chihuahua - also required treatment.

Police said the suspect was described as white, short, about 20 years old, with dark complexion and dark hair.

He was wearing black clothing and spoke with an English accent.

Crimestoppers said up to £3,000 cash would be offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprit.

Police said witnesses or anyone with any information should call Havering Borough CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
