A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a songwriter.

Jack Hummerstone, who police said was wanted in connection with the murder of Thomas Brittain in Colchester in March, was arrested at a property in Errol Street, Islington, north London at 3am today.

Scotland Yard said the 18-year-old would be questioned by detectives in Essex.

A 22-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Mr Brittain, 26, from Essex, died after he was assaulted in the home of a friend, in a flat in Parkside Quarter, Colchester, in the early hours of March 9.

He was stabbed repeatedly.

The victim's family described him as a well-known songwriter and local music producer also known as Twister.

They said: "He was a lovely, kind and funny man who will be dearly missed."
