A teenager has been arrested after a man was allegedly raped in a busy shopping centre department store.

Police in Manchester were called just after 11.30am on Friday to reports a man in his 50s had been raped in the toilets of Next in the Arndale Centre.

It is believed the teenager had been detained by security staff by the time police arrived.

Manchester Evening News reported a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

The alleged victim is receiving specialist support from officers.

Detective Sergeant Chris Maddocks, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “This was an incredibly shocking incident which happened in a busy store today.

“Our specialist officers are with the victim and will ensure he has all the support he needs.”
