A murder investigation is under way after an 18-year-old was stabbed to death in south London.

Ambulance crews called police to the scene on Tiverton Street in Southwark on Sunday night where they found a man aged 18 suffering stab wounds.

He was rushed to a hospital in south London but was pronounced dead shortly before 11pm.

Police said the victim had been seen being chased by another male "wearing a grey or blue hoody" before being attacked.

"Speechless, the victim was seen being chased by another man. When will the lives of young people be valued and prioritised in a time of clear crisis."

DCI Leonard said: “We need those who have information about the culprit(s) for this murder to get in touch with police immediately.

"The victim was seen being chased by another male wearing a grey or blue hoody from Newington Gardens into Tiverton Street where he was attacked and shortly after found by police and London Air Ambulance.

"Were you there? Did you see anything? Your information could prove vital to solving this case and I would urge you to get in touch.”

Tashaun Jones was attacked by a gang in a park near Somerford Grove yards from Stoke Newington high street.

The killing is the 28th fatal stabbing in the capital so far this year.

Scotland Yard revealed last week that 1,768 young people aged under 25 were stabbed in the past 12 months in London.

It means on average, nearly five young people suffer knife injuries every day in the capital, although police point out the number has fallen on the previous 12 months when it topped 2,000.

The Met said this meant there were 311 fewer victims in the past 12 months, and described the figures as “extremely encouraging”.
