This is the moment a bus driver was stabbed in the eye by a man who walked out in front of his vehicle with a child in south-east London.

Police today released CCTV footage of the savage attack on the 41-year-old driver of a Route 227 bus in High Street, Penge.

The assault happened after the bus was forced to brake hard to avoid the suspect, who was holding a small child's hand and was accompanied by another man and a dog.

The suspect had kicked the doors of the bus as it passed after the driver "challenged" him, Scotland Yard said.

He is then seen running down the middle of the road to chase down the vehicle, before leaning through the open window of the cab and stabbing the driver with a Stanley knife, according to police.

The suspect is then said to have made off towards Cottingham Road.

The driver was taken to hospital for treatment for a "puncture wound" to his eye after the attack at around 5pm on June 30 last year.

Police issued an image of the suspect, who is described as black male aged in his early 20s, with afro hair and who was wearing a bright blue tracksuit.

Anyone with information is urged to contact PC Jay Thorn on 020 3054 8978, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting the reference 152798.
