A man is fighting for his life after setting himself on fire outside a pub in south-east London.

Three customers and a bouncer reportedly came to the man's rescue after he set himself alight outside the Queen's Head pub on High Road, Chislehurst, just before 9pm on Sunday.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene. The man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

He is said to have poured petrol on himself in the pub's car park in front of horrified observers.

A witness told The Sun: “If it wasn't for the quick action from three blokes in the pub and one of the bouncers ripping his burning clothes off and extinguishing him he would have been dead.

“There were two petrol cans in his bag and it started catching flame and I extinguished it, heart was racing.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told the Standard: “Police were called at approximately 9pm on Sunday to reports of a man committing self-harm in High Road, Chislehurst.

“The London Ambulance Service attended and treated the man at the scene. He was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

“Enquiries continue.”
