Police have warned anyone who has taken a form of ecstasy known as MasterCard to seek urgent medical attention after a teenager died on a night out.

Greater Manchester Police said a teenage girl suffered an adverse reaction and died in hospital this morning after apparently swallowing a pill during a rave at the Victoria Warehouse in Trafford.

In a statement, the force said: “Police are now concerned about any others who may have taken the pills and want to encourage anyone who may have taken the drug to urgently seek medical attention.”

A spokeswoman added the warning extended beyond Manchester as it is a bank holiday weekend and people are likely to have travelled to the city from elsewhere. Neighbouring forces have been made aware.

Detective Inspector Helen Bell from GMP’s Trafford Division said: “This is a tragic situation, the death of a young person is always devastating, but in these circumstances, it is all the more heart-breaking. My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

“Sadly we know it is very unlikely that the girl was the only person to have taken this drug last night.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have taken this form of ecstasy, known as “MasterCard” to get checked out urgently.

“Even if you took it some hours ago, this pill will still be in your system and could be seriously harming your health.”
