The partner of murdered Sarah Wellgreen says he hopes her killer, who was found guilty of murdering the mother-of-five, "rots" in jail.

Speaking outside the courtroom, Neil James said he was "relieved" after a jury found her ex-lover Ben Lacomba, 39, guilty of her murder.

He added that he hopes Lacomba will reveal where her body is. Ms Wellgreen disappeared without a trace in 2018 and her body has never found.

Mr James said: "It is relief for the family and especially for the kids. It is a relief for all of her friends. The right decision has been made and hopefully he will let us know where her body is.

"Only this morning my daughter was asking where her mummy was.

"I think the police and the barristers have done an amazing job and so it is a big thank you to them.

"A big thank you to the 'Searching for Sarah Wellgreen' team who were all volunteers. They are going to carry on searching until they find Sarah.

"And let's hope he [Lacomba] rots inside."

Ms Wellgreen and Lacomba had split up in 2014 due to "tensions" in their relationship but they still lived together in New Ash Green, Kent, Woolwich Crown Court heard.

The taxi driver said he was asleep in bed when Ms Wellgreen is thought to have died, but the prosecution said he switched off a CCTV system in the middle of the night and parked his car in an unusual spot to evade detection.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan QC said it “appears that potential loss of that family home, that property, and his children motivated his actions”.

Ms Wellgreen's son said "justice has been served" after Lacomba was found guilty.

In a statement given to the media after the hearing, Jack Burdett, 22, said: "Thanks to all members of the court, including the jury members, also to the excellent team at Kent Police for all their hard work.

"We would also like to thank all the community searchers for their efforts to find our mum.

"The family are pleased and happy with the result today. Justice has been served."

Lacomba is due to be sentenced at 10.15am on November 8 at Woolwich Crown Court.
