A 23-year-old Conservative aide has been charged with raping a woman in the Houses of Parliament.

Samuel Armstrong, the chief of staff to Tory MP Craig Mackinlay, is accused of attacking the woman at the South Thanet MP’s office.

The alleged offence took place in the early hours of Friday, October 14.

On Thursday, detectives from the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command charged Armstrong with two counts of rape.

He is also accused of sexual assault by penetration.

Armstrong, of Copt Hill, Danbury, Essex, was bailed to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 31.
