A man has been arrested after “deliberately” driving at pedestrians in Salisbury, police said on Monday.

The 25-year-old driver mounted the pavement in Fisherton Street and drove towards a man and a woman on Sunday night, they said.

Wiltshire Police said he then drove away and has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Dean Garvin said: “This is a deeply concerning incident in which a vehicle appears to have been deliberately driven at pedestrians.

“Two people were injured and taken to hospital. Their injuries could have easily have been much, much worse.

“We are asking members of the public to contact us if you were in the area of Fisherton Street, Salisbury, at about 9.45pm on March 27 and witnessed what took place.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of a blue Skoda driving around Salisbury city centre late last night.”

The man and the woman are being treated in hospital for non-life threatening conditions.

Officers cordoned off a section of the pavement and road on Monday morning following the incident.

If you can help, call police on 101, quoting log 305 of yesterday’s date.
