A young man who died in hospital three days after being ambushed and stabbed was in the “wrong place at the wrong time”, his family said today.

Osman Shidane, 20, was just minutes from his home in Ruislip, west London, on May 15 when he was repeatedly stabbed in a violent attack outside Cineworld.

After being given CPR at the scene, he was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He died from his injuries on Friday.

Last night, his family described how Mr Shidane was the eldest of seven children who would “do anything” for his family.

Victim: Arunesh Thangarajah was found suffering from stab wounds in the early hours of Sunday

Nasteho Shidane, 17, one of his five sisters, told the Standard: “He wanted to support his family. He was a family man - he was caring and compassionate, he was selfless.

“He was very outgoing and naturally got along with everyone.”

Mr Shidane, whose parents are Somali, was born in Denmark but had lived in London 15 years.

The Arsenal fan, who worked in sales for a utilities company, had dreamed of setting up his own business, his sister said.

Police were called to Victoria Road just after 9pm, where they found Mr Shidane with his injuries.

A post-mortem examination, held on Saturday, gave the cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

Meanwhile, a homeless man was stabbed to death in south west London on Sunday morning.

Arunesh Thangarajah was attacked in London Road, Mitcham, shortly before 3:30am and pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old was said to have moved to London from India two years ago to start a new life and had been sleeping rough in Mitcham town centre.

A friend told the Standard: “He was a good friend, like a brother. I only spoke to him the night before - I can’t believe it.”

On Facebook, Mr Thangarajah called himself Uthama Villan, in reference to a famous Indian film which he liked.

• A 16-year-old boy was due to appear at Hillingdon Magistrates Court today charged with murdering Mr Shidane. A 15-year-old girl who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on police bail.

• A 44-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murdering Mr Thangarajah and remains in custody.
