A Romanian man who repeatedly raped a young woman with learning difficulties in a horrifying year-long campaign of abuse has been jailed.
His victim has learning and physical disabilities and was raped and sexually assaulted by Trifan an unknown number of times between January 2015 and January 2016.
Trifan was known to her family, but police were only informed of the attacks after the victim spoke to a charity support worker.
Trifan was later arrested and was in March convicted at Harrow Crown Court of rape and sexual assault.
He was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 years in prison.
DC Angie Meadows, from the Met's child abuse and sexual offences command, said: "Trifan controlled and manipulated the victim throughout his campaign of offences against her, causing her, and subsequently her family, considerable torment.
"Throughout the investigation he has maintained that his behaviour was merely that of a 'weak man'. The sentencing today reflects the seriousness of the offences and that Trifan poses a risk of serious harm to the public."
