A man is fighting for life following a hit-and-run in east London.

A 53-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by what was believed to be a silver car in Rainham just before 9pm on Saturday.

Emergency services rushed to Lower Mardyke Avenue following reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

The victim suffered a life-threatening head injury, police said.

The driver of the car did not stop at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or anyone who has any information about the car possibly involved, to contact them.”
