A postman was hospitalised with severe facial injuries after being attacked while out on his rounds in Croydon.

Police were called to Broom Road, Shirley just before 2pm on Saturday, after receiving reports that a postman had been assaulted.

The postman, aged in his 40s, was taken to a south London hospital suffering from severe facial injuries.

He was discharged from hospital four days later, and is still recovering.

A 52-year-old man was arrested in Broom Road a short while later on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has subsequently been bailed to a date in early November.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward, and officers are retaining an open mind as to the possible motive.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information should contact Detective Constable Andrew Miller from Croydon CID on 101. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
