Five people were arrested after armed police closed Bond Street Tube station following a suspected robbery involving a gun.

Officers were called to reports of a robbery on Oxford Street at about 8.30pm on Friday.

Once there a man told police he was robbed by suspects carrying a firearm and a knife, who were last seen going into Bond Street Underground station.

The station was forced to close with “severe delays” operating on the Central Line afterward.

It reopened at around 9.50pm.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 20:30hrs on Friday, 8 February to reports of a robbery on Oxford Street.

“Officers attended and spoke with the male victim. He informed officers that the suspects were in possession of a firearm and a knife, and that they were last seen entering Bond Street Underground Station.

“Additional officers, including firearms officers and British Transport Police, attended.

"Five people have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a firearm. The station was temporarily closed whilst officers dealt with the incident."
