Police descend on busy Stamford Hill street after 51-year-old man collapses and dies

Police taped off part of a busy north London street in rush hour today after a man collapsed and died.

One man was arrested at the scene in Stamford Hill, Hackney, after the death of the 51-year-old on Thursday afternoon.

He was arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs, a police spokeswoman told the Standard.

Photos taken at Stamford Hill’s junction with Amhurst Park show a large area around the public toilets cordoned off by police.

Officers are shown gathered around the ground next to the toilets while ambulances are parked on the pavement and roadside.

Later a forensics tent can be seen next to the toilets, which are opposite the Sainsbury’s store in Stamford Hill.

The Met said they were called at just after 4pm to reports of a man being taken unwell.

Paramedics fought to save his life but he died at 4.42pm.

The man arrested on suspicion of drug supply has been taken into custody at a police station in north London.
