Three men have been bailed after a man was shot in the head in a drive-by on Waterloo Bridge.

A 22-year-old man was injured and has since been discharged from hospital after a gunman on a motorbike opened fire on a Ford Focus on the bridge on Friday.

Three men, aged 22, 23 and 24, who were arrested on suspicion of firearm offences have been bailed until May.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance service said they were called to the scene shortly after 8pm on Friday.

She said: "Our staff treated one patient and he was taken as a priority to hospital. He was conscious and breathing."

Freelance journalist Ben Jackson was at the scene. At 9pm he posted on Twitter: "A man has been taken away in a police van in handcuffs from Waterloo Bridge, while second handcuffed man being led to a van now."

Scotland Yard's Trident gang crime unit is investigating the shooting.

A spokesman for the Met Police said detectives were keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the shooting or saw the motorcycle fleeing the area.

Detectives now believe that the shots were fired on Kingsway at the junction with Aldwych in central London.
