Police are appealing for witnesses after a six-year-old boy was thrown from a pony which was “spooked” by a motorbike rider – who allegedly laughed as he sped off.

Jake Marriner was hurled from the animal in Carshalton, south London, last week after it was frightened by a motorcycle "travelling at speed", officers said.

His mother Christine watched in horror as the screaming youngster crashed to the ground in Fairlawn Road at about 5.15pm on Tuesday, January 19.

The 29-year-old told the Sutton Guardian that the rider then came back and laughed about what had happened.

She said: “I was watching as he fell and screamed. It was heartbreaking to see.

“The rider saw Jake fall and came back in the other direction and went past laughing… it was absolutely horrific.”

Police said he has since been discharged from hospital with cuts and bruises.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sutton police via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
