An east London pensioner will today appear in court charged with the murder of his wife more than a year ago.

Sixty-eight-year-old Dempsey Nibbs, of Charles Square, Shoreditch, is accused of killing 60-year-old Judith Nibbs at their home on April 11, 2014.

He is due to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates' Court today.

Ms Nibbs, who had worked for Hackney Council delivering Meals on Wheels to the elderly and vulnerable for six years, was found dead at her flat after neighbours raised the alarm.

Floral tributes outside her flat at the time paid tribute to her, with one writing: “I can’t believe we are not going to see you or that smiling face and your laugh again. We are all going to miss you. Love and kisses, Meals on Wheels.”

The couple are believed to have a 30-year-old son and a daughter, who is disabled.
