A murder investigation has been launched today hours after a teenager died in hospital following a late-night stabbing in south-east London.

Police were called by paramedics to Sharratt Street in New Cross shortly before midnight on Wednesday to reports of a 19-year-old man with stab injuries.

The teenager was rushed to Kings College Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11.30am on Thursday.

The youth has not been identified but his next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination is due to be held on Friday at Greenwich Mortuary.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command launched a murder investigation hours after his death.

An incident room has been set up at Lewisham police station as part of the inquiry.

Scotland Yard said no arrests have been made so far.
