Murder squad detectives are investigating the death of a woman at her home in west London.

A 51-year-old man handed himself into a north London police station on Sunday, confessing to harming a woman at a residential address in Hillingdon, Hayes.

The man, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a west London police station where he remains in custody at this time.

Officers attended the address in Gade Close, Hayes, and found a deceased woman in her seventies.

The death is being treated as suspicious. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course and formal identification waits.

Scotland Yard has not revealed any details about the woman's injuries or how she may have died.

Detectives from the Homicide and major crime command are investigating but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman’s death at this early stage.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call detectives on 0208 785 8099, tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online.
