A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing at an east London restaurant.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was attacked inside the Dolce Vita restaurant in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, yesterday evening.

The London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended at about 9.50pm, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene around 50 minutes later.

Police said they have informed the man's next of kin, though they await formal identificiation.

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning and is in custody in an east London police station.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

"At this early stage they believe the murder is linked to an altercation that took place earlier that evening but they continue to retain an open mind."

A post mortem will take place in due course, police said.

Witnesses should call the incident room on 0208 345 1570 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
