The tearful mother of a teenager who was stabbed to death in north London last night stood vigil at the spot where he was killed.

Joshua Folkes, 17, collapsed outside a house in Palmers Green at around 12.45am yesterday. Despite paramedics working on him for almost 45 minutes, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His is the second knife murder in the capital within 24 hours. Antonio Rodney-Cole died at the wheel of his car on Monday after being stabbed in a street attack in Stoke Newington.

Last night dozens of Joshua’s family gathered outside the house in Bowes Road to lay flowers and pay tribute to the aspiring rapper, known as Money J, who was studying to be a mechanic at Southgate Community College.

His sister Khy Folkes-Hunnigale wrote on Twitter: “RIP to my brother Joshua Folkes, so much ahead of him. Taken too soon.”

His mother was too upset to speak last night.

An aunt, who asked not to be named, said: “It is still too raw to talk about. It only happened less than 24 hours ago so we are still grieving.

“All of his family and friends have come down to be here.”

Friend Shanzi Kerrigan, who went to Friern Barnet secondary school with Joshua, had “RIP Money J” tattooed on her arm.

She wrote on Facebook: “Just knowing I ain’t going to see your cheesy grins or smile anymore is heart breaking you are a soldier such a happy person didn’t do anything to anyone. Everyone’s going to miss you Joshua Folkes sleep tight beautiful (sic).”

Today police appealed for witnesses and friends to come forward with information to help catch Joshua’s killers.

Det Chief Insp Nicola Wall said: “We are appealing to the local community about the murder of a boy who was loved by his family. His death has left them devastated.

“We are appealing to Josh’s friends and the community to come forward and help us find his killers. Someone out there must know who is responsible for this murder.”

A post-mortem revealed that Joshua died from stab wounds to the chest.

No arrests have been made.
