Money was left strewn across a road after a cash point was ripped from a wall in north London.

The ATM, in a post office in Archway Road, Highgate, was robbed at 4.20am this morning after thieves smashed into the building.

Witnesses reported seeing money all over the busy main road.

Police attended the scene but the robbers fled the before officers arrived.

Archway Road was this morning closed in both directions between Bakers Lane and Muswell Hill causing traffic problems during rush hour. Buses are on diversion.

Police are investigating.
