A Met police officer who got drunk at a horse racing event and became “abusive and threatening” has been dismissed.

PC David Parker was off-duty at Newmarket Racecourse when he got “very drunk” and aggressive.

He was arrested and cautioned after the incident in July and, following a misconduct hearing, has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Force on the grounds of 'discreditable conduct'.

Chair of the panel assistant commissioner Helen King said Barker, who was stationed in Bow, had exhibited “disgraceful” behaviour.

She said at the hearing on Thursday: “It is clear that PC Parker was given every opportunity to avoid being arrested but instead was abusive, threatening and identified himself as an off-duty police officer.

“He was clearly very drunk. He resisted arrest and continued to act in an aggressive manner. This would be unacceptable from a member of the public. From a police officer it is disgraceful."
