A serving Met Police officer has been charged with rape and suspended from the force.

PC Ireland Murdock is alleged to have carried out the offence on Saturday September 25 last year, while off duty.

The officer, who is part of the Met’s Central North Command Unit, was arrested on Tuesday, January 11 this year.

He will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed, as has the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers, the Met Police said.
