Police today issued images of 12 people wanted in connection with throwing fireworks and "street furniture" at police during a recent anti-capitalist protest in London.

Scotland Yard said officers want to speak to the dozen suspects following violent disorder which erupted during the Million Mask March organised by the activist group Anonymous in the capital earlier this month.

Police say the demonstration - which featured around 4,000 protesters wearing Guy Fawkes masks inspired by the 2005 film V for Vendetta - was mostly peaceful but there were pockets of violence shown to officers who had fireworks, plastic cones and road signs thrown at them.

Ten people were arrested for various crimes, including assaulting police, obstruction offences, attempted assault and public order offences.

Officers say the eleven men and one woman pictured in the images are wanted for disorder which took place in Parliament Square between 7pm and 8pm on November 5.

Protests: the demonstration - which featured around 4,000 protesters - was mostly peaceful

Comedian Russell Brand was spotted at the protest holding a mask by his side while comedy agent and producer Corrie McGuire told how was assaulted by activists because she had "the wrong accent."

The images were released by the Met the day before thousands of students are expected to march through London in protest at tuition fees and cuts. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Barnes, from the Met's Public Order Command, said: "This was a concerted violent attack on officers by a minority who were determined to commit crime and had no interest in peaceful protest.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we will make every effort to trace these individuals and hold them accountable for their actions. I would appeal for help from the public in identifying these individuals so they can be brought to justice."

Anyone who recognises the individuals pictured is asked to call 020 8246 0076 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
