Detectives investigating the murder of wealthy socialite Robert Troyan, who was battered to death in his Mayfair flat, have arrested a man in south London.

The 36-year-old man was held at an address in Sutton last night in connection with the killing of Robert Troyan whose body was found in his flat on Friday March 8.

Mr Troyan, 63, lived alone in his flat in Mount Street after the death of his partner, the interior designer and socialite Anthony Feldman, whose clients included Princess Michael of Kent.

The couple were famed for their champagne-fuelled ‘Mayfair dinners’ held at their townhouse home.

Scotland Yard said the 36-year-old was being interviewed at a south London police station this morning and they renewed an appeal for witnesses.

Detective Inspector David Reid, who is leading the inquiry, said: "I am appealing for anyone who knew Robert to come forward. He was a very well-known character in Mayfair, whom friends describe as kind and extremely generous.

"We are confident that his murder took place on Friday 8 March sometime before 4pm, and urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in and around Mount Street to come forward.”
