A man was stabbed in the face with a garden fork during a row in a high street shop.

The 31-year-old was attacked after an argument in a Wilko store at about lunchtime on Thursday.

Police said his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening after the incident in Manchester's Harpurhey Shopping Centre.

A member of staff told the Manchester Evening News: "There was blood everywhere. Everyone was in shock after it happened. The attacker used a pitchfork as a weapon."

Police said a 26-year-old man was arrested for assault after the incident.

A spokesman added: "Officers arrived and discovered two men had been fighting inside one of the shops and a 31-year-old man had been stabbed in the face with a small garden fork which had been taken from one of the shelves.”
