Christmas shoppers watched in horror as an armed gang chased a man through a busy high street before stabbing him in the chest.

The white male in his thirties was knifed in Muswell Hill Broadway at 4.30pm yesterday.

Witnesses said he was chased by about 15 youths. One was using a chair from a café as a weapon while another was wielding a belt.

The victim was treated on the pavement outside Carluccio’s by paramedics from London’s Air Ambulance before being taken to hospital.

A bystander said: “He was just sat on the floor in a state of total shock. His friend was talking to the police saying he didn’t know why they attacked him.”

The man’s injuries were said to be non life-threatening.

There have been no arrests and police enquiries continue.
