A man was left with head injuries after reportedly being attacked with a brick in a residential north London street this morning.

Police believe the assault happened during a fight in Ferndale Road, South Tottenham, at about 8.10am. Witnesses called 999, and officers arrived to find the injured man on his own.

Pictures from the scene show the street cordoned off and police vehicles at one end.

A man on his way to work was allegedly told by a policeman the weapon in question had been a brick. Scotland Yard would not confirm what had been used, but did say the item had been recovered.

"Officers arrived on scene to find one man at the location with facial injuries. He is currently being seen to by London Ambulance Service.

"Officers from Haringey are investigating."

A spokeswoman from London Ambulance Service said the man did not need hospital treatment.

"We were called at 8.12am to Ferndale Road to reports of an assault," she said. "We sent an ambulance to the scene and treated a patient for head injuries."
