A man who stabbed an off-duty police community support officer after finding him in his sister’s bedroom was today jailed for six years.

Hamza Farjani, 26, “lost control” and stabbed Najeb Nezan four times with a kitchen knife when he caught him in his parent’s house in the early hours.

Mr Nezan suffered back and chest injuries as he tried to leave the house in Paddington after visiting Farjani’s younger sister Nawel, who Southwark crown court heard was no more than a friend. The trainee officer has since recovered from his injuries. Recorder Jennifer Eady, QC, said: “It was just sheer luck that the injuries Mr Nezan suffered were quite minor.”

Victoria Meads, defending, claimed Farjani felt an extra protectiveness towards his 23-year-old sister because she suffers from mental health problems. She said: “Her vulnerability and his perhaps unjustified need to protect her was clearly the catalyst for this offence. When he returned home that day, he lost control of himself.”

Sentencing Farjani, who was found guilty by a jury of wounding with intent, Recorder Eady said: “Whilst I accept it must have been a surprise to come across a stranger in your family home, you then, without asking him or your sister as to why he was there or who he was, rushed off and acquired a knife. You then attacked him. He was seeking to rush out but you still attacked him.”
