A man in his 30s is fighting for his life after being found lying in the road following a hit-and-run in north London.

Police were called a road in Enfield where the man was found lying injured in the road at around 2.20am.

He was taken from the scene, in Meridian Avenue near the Picketts Lock Lane flyover, to a north London hospital with "multiple injuries".

Scotland Yard said he "may have been struck by a vehicle that subsequently failed to stop".

Detective Sergeant Stuart Henson said: "I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened on Saturday morning to contact us. Did you see or hear a collision? Did you witness a vehicle speeding away from the area?

"It is important that we trace the vehicle and driver so that we can establish exactly what happened."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 8597 4874 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
