A man has admitted torturing a woman by pouring boiling water over her from a kettle in an “extremely disturbing act of domestic violence".
The woman was left with severe burns after Fiston Onyumbe, 32, tortured her at a flat in Tottenham, where he repeatedly punched her in the face, strangled her and poured the boiling water over her in a horrific ordeal.
When officers were called to the flat they found Onyumbe hiding his victim under a blood covered duvet, prosecutors said.
The woman had already jumped out of the window to escape, but was dragged back up the stairs by her attacker, banging her head against the bannister.
She suffered bruising, and facial and spinal fractures in the horrific attack.
The brutal assaults were all part of a bid to “interrogate” the woman, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
Onyumbe was caught when officers wearing body worn cameras were called to the flat on January 21, where the woman silently mouthed at officers to arrest Onyumbe.
The cameras captured the woman telling officers straight after the arrest of how her attacker had brutally beaten her, including pouring boiling water over her.
Onyumber admitted causing grievous bodily harm on the first day of his trial at the Old Bailey on Monday.
He also admitted actual bodily harm to a police officer who he headbutted in the face while he was being arrested.
The police officer suffered a cut and swelling.
At an earlier hearing, Onyumbe also pleaded guilty to assault by beating, having assaulted the same woman in Dalston Kingsland High Street on the same day he was arrested.
Thomas Short, CPS reviewing lawyer, said: “This was an extremely disturbing act of domestic violence carried out as part of a sustained assault.
Fiston Onyumbe’s victim suffered extreme pain from the boiling water but, despite her pleas, he continued his attack which would no doubt have been even more serious had it not been interrupted by the police officers.
“Her account of what happened was captured almost immediately by body worn video cameras worn by the police and she was able to describe the attack later.”
Onyumbe will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on July 26.
