One of the two men accused of murdering oil executive Carole Waugh today admitted attempting to hide her body and destroy evidence.

Rakesh Bhayani, 41, appeared by videolink at the Old Bailey to plead guilty to perverting the course of justice.

He also admitted conspiring with Nicholas Kutner, 48 and others to defraud banks and other financial institutions by trying to set up bank accounts in Ms Waugh’s name.

Kutner also pleaded guilty to three further charges of fraud but pleaded not guilty to the perverting the course of justice charge.

Both unemployed Bhayani, of Wembley, and Kutner, of no fixed address, denied murder.

Six others are accused of conspiracy to defraud in connection with the case.

Miss Waugh, 50, disappeared from her home in Marylebone in April last year and her body was found with a single stab wound inside a car in a lock-up garage in New Malden, in August.

Bhyani and Kutner have admitted claiming to have been authorised to undertake transactions in the name of Miss Waugh and by impersonating her after she had gone missing.

The institutions involved are Barclays Bank, Barclaycard Visa, American Express, First Direct and Cheval Finance .

The Cheval charge involves obtaining a bridging loan in Miss Waugh’s name and secured using her Marylebone flat.

The fraud charges admitted by Kutner alone involves him claiming to be her brother, Christopher Waugh, and entitled to let the flat.

Elaine Perkins, 51, Deborah Burke, 49, Susan O’Shea, 61, and Derek Eastham, 56, and Elie Khoury, 40, all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defraud.

Eastham also admitted possessing counterfeit currency.

Bhyani’s wife Sheetal pleaded not guilty to possessing £5,800 knowing it to have been obtained through crime.

Bhyani and Kutner were remanded in custody by Mr Justice Sweeney but the other defendants were granted continued bail. The trial is expected to start at the beginning of October.
